My Gear
“There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad gear.”
–Things Norwegians Say
Having the right gear can make or break an “almost roughing it” experience–the difference between an ordeal or an adventure. Here are a couple of my favorite pieces of gear I choose to have along when I comfortably leave my comfort zone.
My Camper…
A 1980 Burro…our beloved little home-away-from-home since 1992. Everything I need, nothing I don’t.

My Bike…
An ’89 Trek Antelope. For multi-day bike-packing trips
Almost roughing it on the Greenbrier Trail, West Virginia, USA
My Tent..
An MSR Hubba Hubba (umm…the name it came with). Our super lightweight travel tent.
Almost roughing it in Naxos, Greece
My Kayak…
Christened the S.S. Sweet Pea. Kayak camping is one of my favorite ways to almost rough it.
